What Couture Actually Means

Not Off-the-Rack.
Not Even Close.

When most people say “couture,” they mean expensive. At Margo West, couture means something specific. A gown that exists nowhere else in the world, designed from a blank page and constructed entirely to your measurements, your posture, your life.

Margo West has designed and constructed bespoke bridal gowns in Dallas since 1984. Every piece begins with a design consultation. Not a fitting room of samples to thumb through, but a conversation about who you are, what you love, and what your wedding day calls for.

  • Custom silhouette design from first sketch to final stitch
  • Fabric selection from premier couture mills and specialty sources
  • Hand-finished beading, lace work, and embellishment
  • Multiple private fittings. The gown built on your body
  • Alterations and adjustments until the fit is flawless

The Couture Journey

Four Steps to
Your Singular Gown

01
Design Consultation

We start with you. Your aesthetic, your wedding vision, your must-haves and boundaries. Margo works with you to develop a silhouette, structural approach, and embellishment direction before a single fabric is cut.

02
Fabric & Material Selection

From silk charmeuse and duchess satin to delicate Chantilly lace and hand-beaded appliqué. We source materials to match your vision and construction requirements exactly. You'll see, touch, and approve everything.

03
Construction & Fittings

Your gown is built in stages, with private fittings scheduled to shape every seam directly on your body. This is where couture becomes real. Adjustments made in the moment, fit refined over multiple sessions, until the silhouette is exactly right.

04
Final Fitting & Delivery

The final fitting happens 2–4 weeks before your wedding. Any last adjustments are made, the gown is finished and pressed, and we walk you through everything you need to know about wearing and carrying your gown on the day.

Why Margo West

Forty Years. One Standard.
Uncompromising.

Dallas has no shortage of bridal shops. What it doesn’t have many of is what Margo West is. A true couture atelier operating for over four decades, where every bride works directly with the designer.

You Work Directly with Margo

No junior associates, no hand-offs. Margo West personally leads every design consultation and supervises every construction decision on your gown.

True Bespoke. Not Made-to-Order

Made-to-order means a pre-existing pattern produced in your size. Bespoke means your gown is designed and drafted from scratch. For your body, your proportions, your vision.

Everything Done In-House

Design, fabric sourcing, cutting, construction, beadwork, finishing, fittings. All done at our Dallas Design District studio. Nothing is sent out.

The Gown You Described, Not Settled For

When you commission a couture gown, you end your search. The gown that arrives is the gown you envisioned. Not the closest thing the sample room had available.

Common Questions

About Couture Wedding Gowns

The terms are often used interchangeably, but there is a meaningful distinction. Custom often refers to a made-to-order gown. An existing design reproduced in your measurements. Couture means the gown is designed and constructed from scratch specifically for you. At Margo West, our couture work begins at the design stage: no existing pattern is used, and the gown takes shape through a series of fittings on your body specifically.

A couture wedding dress is a one-of-a-kind gown designed and built entirely to the individual bride. To her exact measurements, personal aesthetic, and structural needs. It involves a series of private fittings where the gown is shaped directly on the wearer, hand-finished details, and materials selected specifically for that gown. The result exists nowhere else in the world.

Couture wedding dress pricing reflects the labor, materials, and time involved in creating a singular piece. At Margo West, we provide a full project quote after your initial design consultation. Pricing is based on your specific silhouette, fabric selection, embellishment detail, and construction complexity. We begin with a $100 consultation deposit applied to your total. Schedule a consultation to discuss your vision and receive a quote.

Most couture wedding gowns require 4–8 months from design consultation to final fitting, depending on complexity and embellishment level. We recommend beginning at least 6 months before your wedding. Rush projects may be possible depending on our current schedule. Call (972) 918-9750 to discuss your timeline.

Yes. And we encourage it. Images from runways, editorial shoots, Pinterest boards, or even pieces from other contexts (architecture, textiles, art) that capture a feeling you love are all helpful starting points. You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what you want. The design consultation is a conversation, and Margo West is skilled at translating visual references and impressions into a gown design that’s distinctly yours.

What It Feels Like to WearSomething Made for You

★★★★★

“I showed Margo a photo of a gown I loved and she said, ‘Let me show you what we can do with that idea.’ What she made was so much better than what I came in with. I cried at my final fitting.”

Cassandra T. Dallas Bride
★★★★★

“I had an unconventional body type and couldn’t find a single sample that worked. Margo designed something from scratch that fit perfectly and looked like it was made for a magazine. Because it was made for me.”

Rebekah M. Allen TX
★★★★★

“The only regret I have is that I almost bought off the rack. From the first sketch to the final fitting, working with Margo was an experience I’ll treasure as much as the wedding itself.”
