Protect Your Memory

Your Gown Is Worth
More Than a Plastic Bag

Most brides hang their gown in a closet after the wedding and move on. Within a few years, yellowing begins. Sugar stains. Invisible at first. Oxidize and turn brown. Fabrics weaken. The gown you saved for and wore on the most important day of your life starts to deteriorate.

At Margo West, we offer professional wedding dress preservation that stops that process completely. Expert cleaning appropriate to your specific fabrics and embellishments. Archival boxing in acid-free materials. A gown that stays exactly as you left it. Ready to be passed down, displayed, or simply kept safe.

“Forty years of working with wedding gowns has taught me one thing: the ones that last are the ones that were cared for immediately. Don’t wait.”

How It Works

The Preservation Process

Every gown receives the same careful, methodical approach. From inspection to archival boxing.

01

Drop-Off & Inspection

Your gown is inspected thoroughly. Every stain, fabric type, and embellishment is catalogued. Any needed repairs are noted. You receive a full condition report and a confirmed price.

02

Expert Cleaning

Cleaning is tailored to your specific fabrics. Silk, lace, tulle, beading, embroidery. We don’t use a one-size-fits-all process. Stains are pre-treated by hand before any cleaning begins.

03

Pressing & Shaping

Once clean, your gown is carefully pressed and shaped. Returning it to its original form. Ruffles re-set, skirts fluffed, bodice structured. The gown is prepared exactly as it was when you wore it.

04

Archival Boxing

Your gown is packed in acid-free tissue and placed in an archival preservation box. Materials are pH-neutral to prevent yellowing for decades. Ready for display, storage, or heirloom transfer.

Why Preserve

What Happens If
You Don’t Preserve

Wedding gowns face three invisible enemies after the wedding: oxidation, humidity, and time. The stains you can’t see today. Champagne, cake, sweat. Will oxidize and turn yellow or brown within 1–3 years if untreated. White and ivory silks yellow. Lace weakens. Beading loses adhesion. Embroidery threads break.

Preservation stops all of it. The sooner after the wedding, the better. But we regularly work with gowns stored for years. It’s never too late to protect what matters.

  • Prevents yellowing and oxidation of white & ivory fabrics
  • Removes invisible sugar stains before they set permanently
  • Protects beading, lace, and embellishment integrity
  • Archival boxing prevents humidity and pest damage
  • Creates an heirloom for daughters, granddaughters, & beyond

Schedule Drop-Off
Preservation at Margo West starts at $400. Final cost depends on the gown’s fabric, level of embellishment, and the extent of cleaning required. All pricing is confirmed after the drop-off inspection. No surprises.
Ideally within 2–4 weeks of your wedding. Stains from champagne, food, grass, or perspiration can set over time and become significantly harder to remove. That said, we work with gowns stored for years. It’s never too late to preserve.
Our preservation service includes: a detailed inspection and condition report, expert cleaning appropriate to your fabrics and embellishments, stain pre-treatment, pressing and shaping, and archival boxing in acid-free, pH-neutral materials. The gown is stored in a preservation box designed to last for decades.
Yes. While earlier is always better, we regularly work with gowns that have been stored unwashed for 1–20+ years. Yellowing and set stains may limit what’s achievable, but we can significantly improve the gown’s condition and prevent further deterioration with proper preservation.
Yes. Vintage and heirloom gowns are some of our most meaningful projects. We treat vintage fabrics with extra care, using appropriate cleaning methods for silk, organza, and older lace constructions that won’t survive standard dry cleaning. Call us to discuss your specific gown before drop-off.
